Rex Murphy is a CBC commentator and an amazing Newfoundlander and Labradorean (I'm jealous he's maintained his accent after all these years away).
A number of months ago he gave his perspective on Donald Trump in the U.S. Presidential election. His point of view was life might be morphing into the essence of the many reality shows that have steadily risen in popularity and that if we want to pretend life is a TV show, we are now getting our wish.
As I was looking at coverage of various governments over the last couple of weeks, I found myself coming back to that. We may not have the extreme drama and show that's unfolding south of the border at this time, but there's still a lot about the culture of how government runs that would not be stood for in any other workplace in the country. I wonder what school children who visit these places think? Or what their teachers tell them? Why can an elected official, a leader of society, behave in a manner that they would never be allowed to in a classroom?
