Mother Sized Jobs

Continuing on with sharing all the yummy wisdom from Al Etmanski's bookinar with Marian Tompson. As the founder of La Leche League, a charity that now has branches in many countries and spawned a breastfeeding movement, Marian was very intentional in how the organization created jobs. She calls them mother-sized jobs.

The jobs at La Leche League had to reflect being a Mom. That meant different things for every Mom. It seems like the biggest part of it is just making the space and support for Mom's to be able to do what they need to do to take care of their family.  I'm sure you could put this lens on jobs for Dad's as well.

What a great step toward being as intentional about our being as our doing. Flipping the narrative and making sure our jobs fit raising a healthy family and not our families having to fit into the structures of our jobs. I know there's been lots of progress on this in the last few decades and I think we can keep going by ensuring we check in with this filter often.
