My Grandfather’s Daughter

I'm breaking tradition and writing two posts for today. June 11, 2016 marks three years since I lost my Grandfather, my Poppy. I'm very fortunate to have had my Grandparent's as a second set of parents. They both passed on many gifts to their children, grandchildren and countless others in the community.  Since I started on this journey to clarify my own life's purpose it has pulled me towards picking up where he left off.

This week at Deepening Community my mind was on him the whole time. I saw and felt him everywhere and it inspired me to write this. Not just to honour him, but to claim who I am. Thank you to everyone who spoke at the Gathering this week, it helped me to have the courage to do this and some of the right language to capture what I was feeling.

I'm my Grandfather’s daughter; I lead with my heart.

I care first and ask questions second.

I give away love easily and often.

I'm my Grandfather’s daughter; I see possibility everywhere.

I see people as a glass half-full rather than empty.

I know the power of forgiveness for ourselves and others.

I'm my Grandfather’s daughter; I love to create.

I use my head, heart and hands to put new things into the world.

I support and love learning from others who do this too.

I'm my Grandfather’s daughter; I give my gifts freely.

I love connecting my gifts with others in service and care.

I try to remain humble and ready for gifts that might challenge my own.

I'm my Grandfather’s daughter; I live my life with joy.

I smile often, laugh loud and do my part to help others do this too.

Good friends, family, food and music sustain me.

I'm my Grandfather’s daughter and my mission is to continue living his.
