Sleep

I'm writing today about something that isn't overly insightful, profound, new or complicated. It is sleep.

Despite how simple a thing it is and how much we know about how important it is or what we need to do to get our best of it, we can often relegate sleep to the back-burner (or at least I do). Pushing through this is part of some weird societal level belief we have that sufficient sleep is for the weak or uncool. I'll sleep when I'm dead, is far too common a saying today.

Arianna Huffington has taken this on full force over the last number of years and especially in her latest book: The Sleep Revolution. I haven't gotten to read, but the press she's done to date has been very compelling. You can check out this interview from the Good Life Project to get a teaser of what it's all about. If someone this successful can make time for sleep, surely I can too.

Insufficient sleep is the single easiest predictor of my energy, focus and mood. However, I still choose to sacrifice it for something else more than I would like. I'm definitely still on a learning path with this one and as I'm very sleepy today am kicking myself in the butt again for letting things get in the way of quality rest.
