Finding Flow

I usually blog first thing in the morning. Blogging also usually just seems to flow. Except sometimes when it doesn't.

I got up this morning and was totally stuck. Instead of finding someway to help myself get unstuck, I stared at my computer for awhile trying to force a blog post. It's part of my schedule. It's what I do that at time of day. After 20 minutes, I decided to give myself until the end of the day.

On my way home on the bus, I dove into a community engagement magazine. By paragraph two the heaviness I'd been carrying around all day from trying to force things had lifted.

I've learned this lesson numerous times. If something isn't working, I shouldn't force it because it needs to get done at that time. The quick cure for me is letting go of that pressure and switching to something totally different. Taking time to fill myself up prior to trying to create.

That's how I deal in the moment. The proactive solution is to keep ensuring I'm taking time to fill up and check in with how I'm feeling. Not trying to push the car that inch further on empty because maybe it can. Remaining self-aware and proactively filling it up when it gets down to a quarter tank.
