Faith pt 2

I wrote yesterday about having faith in the uncertain after turning down tickets to the first half of the new Harry Potter play hoping that we'd get both parts today. Well we did. And it happened within 10 minutes of being in the line and the seats are amazing.

That's not really the point of this post though. Before and after the play we walked by a homeless guy about our age on the street. We did give him some money, but that's not the point either. Something about him struck me and I think with my heart being so open from the play it has kind of stayed there.

I've been thinking that we need to give more than money. Giving our time, care and faith can likely mean as much or more. It got me thinking about how often we lose faith in people. People in general are a big unknown and it can be scary to trust. Is that what happened with this young man? Did he not have anyone to have faith in him and he lost it in himself? Or maybe he didn't have it from a young age and no one has shown faith in him since?

I've been thinking then about how to show faith in others, especially those that might have assumptions frequently made about them and their potential. I'm going to try and keep it simple. Just make sure people know that they are seen and valued. Asking someone how their day is and really caring about it. Having a little faith that everyone has something to share and being curious about learning what that might be.
