On September 11, 2001 planes were landed immediately after the attack on the twin towers. Thousands of passengers were stranded in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador. Newfoundlanders opened up their hearts, homes and kitchens to all of these individuals and made them feel welcomed. 

In a time where we hear so much us and them and fear of the other is so prevalent across our society, I am so proud to have a musical being made out of this story. Come From Away is a beautiful story, which means it inspired an amazing musical that is getting rave reviews everywhere it has played so far, including its opening this week in New York. 

It was this place and these people who shaped who I am today. Who encourage me to be curious about others. Who inspire me to be quick to lend a helping hand. It's where my roots are and what I ground into no matter how many thousands of kilometres are between me and my rock. She'll always be home sweet home to me.
