Giving Myself an ‘A’

I revisit the Art of Possibility quite frequently. The practices in this book have forever changed the way I live and how I see the world.

Lately, I've been coming back to Giving An 'A', which is the practice of assuming upfront that people will meet and likely exceed your expectations. Ben Zander gave his students an A at the start of a semester if they completed an assignment that detailed how they would deserve this A by the end of the class. It worked time after time to help students get down to meaningful learning rather than focusing on the fact they were being evaluated at that moment.

I've seen amazing things when I extend my own unconditional-confidence to others about their ability.  I'm practicing the same concept on myself as well. I'm trying to be a better boss to myself. To stop being overly critical and to focus on growth and not perfection. Brené Brown blew my mind again this week with the idea that our ability to love others is directly related to our abilities to love ourselves.

It's time to give myself an A and leave my constant evaluator behind.
