This particular episode of Mentoring Moments featuring Agapi Stassinopoulos continues to share an immense amount of insight.
In it Agapi notes a recent inspiration from Hamilton creator Lin Manuel-Miranda. His commitment to living his life in the philosophy of Alexander Hamilton, which is to never think that tomorrow is promised to us. She gives the analogy of stopping the treadmill in our heads long enough to look at our lives through this perspective and with this attitude. That in doing this we are able to reconnect with what we are here to share.
The treadmill is something I've been on since I was a little kid. Since I started to seriously plan out what my career would be at the age of 10. Since I took my role as the oldest sister and cousin to mean that I had to be serious and a role model for everyone else. It also meant that I held everyone a little apart from myself. All habits which I'm still trying to break.
Slowing down that treadmill has been my mission over the last number of years. It's one of the main reasons I started this blog. At least once every day I have to slow it down and reflect. I need to start doing it more often though. Making more time to connect with myself, my breath and my heart.
