Writing is a solitary activity for me. When we picture an artist how do we see them? Are they alone in creating or with others? Is it by chance that so many famous artists (writers, musicians, painters, etc.) had a community of contemporary colleagues or was it this community they formed that helped spur them to greatness?
I'm looking forward to figuring out how to leave the solitary artist behind and fostering and joining my own creative community. I'll start with the first of the four steps identified in Jeff Goin's Medium post on this same subject: find your fellow misfits. I am sure that I already have a few. We just need to put up the beacon to call others in too.
p.s. you're an artist even if you don't think you are. If you create change not because someone asked you to, but because you don't know any other way of living and breathing, you're an artist. Welcome to the club.
