Today, June 21 is National Aboriginal Day.
"We are all treaty people." I love this statement. It's a great example of how a movement can have its own identity and yet still be inclusive. I remember the first time I heard it I was so struck by it's power and freshness and I've carried it with me ever since. It breaks down us and them and makes us all part of the cause.
That spirit of inclusivity says a lot about the strength of people. It's much easier to divide us among our differences rather than to try and bring us together based on what we share. In a week where ads like this one are being broadcast by our neighbours to the south, I'm so grateful for this spirit of being in this together.
Happy National Aboriginal Day everyone.
