When I taught music I wanted the students to relate to me and find me approachable, but I also wanted them to admire my abilities. I wanted them to think I was a great musician. I didn't often show vulnerability.
I'm starting to realize that my path in life isn't likely to share all of the things that I feel like I'm great at. It is to honestly share my learning journey. To embrace the imperfection and know that you can't create anything new without getting it wrong a number of times.
I have to guard against those times when I start to feel that pride wanting to impress others. That it can be impressive too to be honest, real and open about our imperfect journeys.
