For the last 2.5 days I've had the privilege of being a part of a Social R&D practice gathering hosted by SiG. It was a group of about 40 changemakers from across Canada who are working to use research and development practices that are very common in the private sector to have greater social impact in Canada. I'm sure I will be continuing to push through and write about my learnings as I unpack and synthesize in the future (An advanced warning that you'll hear about it again!).
I'm hanging onto something that one of the other participants said: " Get out of the everyday auto-pilot". It's very easy to unconsciously enable cruise control as organizations and individuals. It's bound to happen to us many times in our day, week, month and year.
It is guarding against auto-pilot that is a condition that separates nimble and resilient organizations and people from those that eventually become irrelevant. Things that can be completed in auto-pilot are ripe for automation. How do we surround ourselves with people that help to launch us out of this practice? Or instill a reflective practice in our own lives that ensures we are conscious of heading into cruise control?
I've so appreciated this gathering to challenge me to look for areas in my life where I may have gone into auto-pilot. I definitely found a couple, especially with some of my passion projects. Looking forward to breaking those out of cruise control and picking up the pace in the next 30 days.
