Good comedy is inspiring. It's insightful and full of vulnerability. Neal Brennan's Netflix special 3 Mics is great comedy. The three mics were for different styles of delivery: One for one-liners, another for stand up and finally one for emotional stuff.
Neal is famously known for being the co-creator of the Chappelle Show. When the show ended he realized he needed to go from being an Emmy award nominated director and writer to open mics to launch a career in delivering his own comedy.
The quote that rang deep from Brennan was "I can't hide. I wanna hide. I can't hide."
Hiding is easier than ever. We can jump on another person's opinion of something and lose ourselves in it. We can make anonymous comments on news stories and set up fake social media accounts that just troll others.
It's scary not to hide. To say this is me and wait to hear what comes back. It takes an immense amount of courage to let your own voice ring loud. The feeling of joy you get from it though is unparalleled. To know you've connected with your unique gifts and put them out into the world is a very special thing.
