It's very rare in life that we get a chance to step onto a train before it starts moving. To be in an organization when it begins or at the front of a project before it was even really a thing. Getting the train moving is one skill, though we likely don't get to use it as often.
More common is having to get on and off of a train that's moving. How much do we need the train to slow down for us to get on? How quickly are we able to get up to speed? When we need to get off the train, how graceful and generous are we at handing off the reins to who is next?
As with many things, this is a skill that can be built. A small group of people might have a talent for it, but most people who are good at this have built the muscle by committing to creating a practice. Creating their own frameworks and questions that they are able to apply each time they must enter or exit a train. Slowly your brain just starts to process this on its own, like when we stopped having to think about what the colour green was and we just knew.
Over time these individuals become linchpins in their organizations and lives. They are able to adapt their outside colour while always staying true to their core practice that has gotten them safely on and off many a train in life.
