Our Will

I finished the final book in Madeleine L'Engle's Time Trilogy today. Yesterday I wrote about how it reminded me of the importance of considering the balance and interconnectedness of things and how I use reflective practice to try and be mindful of that.

As I finished the book, it brought home another important lesson. Without giving anything away, the book involves a lot of time travel. Each time the character tries to control where he's being transported, something bad happens. When he follows the energy around him, he ends up getting what he needed even though it wasn't usually an obvious starting place.

It's my lot in life to be very impatient about the pace of change. Once I can see how something could be, I want it to be different tomorrow. That's not really how the world works. The same as the protagonist in this book, I've had to learn that I need to follow the energy. When it feels like I'm dragging something uphill, it usually means I'm trying to force something. Better to find another place where I'm working with the energy rather than against it.
