It's no secret that I'm a proud Newfoundlander and Labradorian. I often struggle with my current identity of reconciling that with the fact that I call Calgary home.
One way I try to feel like I'm still helping my home province is by donating to charities. One of those is the Shorefast Foundation whose mission is to build cultural and economic resilience on Fogo Island. Through place-making, art, business and Newfoundland hospitality, this amazing organization is re-defining economic development in rural communities across the globe.
There's so much you can learn from Shorefast's example. My very favourite idea though is economic nutrition labels. As food labels revolutionized how we look at purchasing our food, so too will these labels for how to purchase any consumer product.
Even just thinking about what the label of a product or service would look like brings a level of awareness to a transaction that is often missing. Little by little, ideas like this are reshaping how we use business. Until eventually, all business will be social business as it was meant to be.
