I recently subscribed to fellow altMBA alum Ozan Varol's weekly newsletter. In this week's article he shared the story of how giving himself the challenge of incorporating song lyrics into a chapter of his book, immediately got him unstuck from his writer's block.
The work we need to do can seem so heavy and arduous, especially the stuff we really need to make time for and resistance may be trying to keep us away from. My commitment is to put a link on my desktop to this classic from Mary Poppins to remind me to always look at how I can add a beautiful and fun constraint anytime something is feeling heavy. Hopefully resulting in everything going down in the most delightful way.
More importantly though, this kind of playfulness puts you in an innovative mindset. It will make you more likely to come up with those remarkable ideas that spread AND you'll have more fun doing it. Let's stop being so serious. If Warby Parker can make a SEC disclosure fun, we can bring this kind of joy into any work.
