Paul Born's book, Deepening Community, spoke to my core values. It not only weaved an inspiring story of how to deepen community in our lives, but helped to distill the key elements of what it takes to do this. They are as follows:
- Sharing our stories;
- Taking the time to enjoy one another;
- Taking care of one another; and
- Working together for a better world.
They sound so simple. We often have muscles to build though in terms of putting them into practice.
Sharing our stories means having the courage to share not just the wins, but when we fall down and have to get back up too.
We have to slow down long enough to really spend time with our tribe.
We can sometimes struggle at letting others take care of us too. It's this reciprocity that makes number three magic.
Finally, sharing the responsibility and accountability with others in our acts of service. We may go fast alone, but number four is all about going far together.
I've been leaning into all of these learning edges in 2017. To round it out I'm taking the leap to have to live these to bring KindYYC to life.
