We Are Family

99.9% of our DNA is the same, so why is there so much us and them?

Coming home tonight I heard A.J. Roberts on CBC's The Current talking about his new book  It's All Relative: Adventures Up and Down the World's Family Tree.  A.J. explored the exploding industry of genealogy on the internet.  He discovered he was related to lots of people including Daniel Radcliffe and Barack Obama.

The purpose of this search was to show how alike we all are. To think twice before we judge or make an assumption. To take a second to be curious about if our thoughts would change if they were our sister, cousin or Mom.

He also highlighted the importance of sharing the ups and downs of our family journey. That it was through seeing not just the successes of our family, but when they showed grit and resilience that we developed a strong sense of our identity and roots.
