Fact checking is something we are losing. We tend to take anything we can find on the internet as truth, when much of it can be very misleading. I use quotes a lot in my blogs. As inspiration for a post's theme or sometimes because I don't feel like I have anything particularly interesting to say that day.
Ever since I found out that Ghandi did not in fact say "Be the change you wish to see in the world", I've been wary of using famous quotes unless I can find some kind of citation. Today I found a few resources to help me with that in the future.
- Quote Investigator – A site that explores the origins of many quotes.
- Dr. Mardy's Dictionary of Metaphorical Quotes – All quotes come with a link to their origin.
- Wikiquote – As with wiki-anything, it's a great place to start, but because it is maintained by a broad online community, there may be mistakes.
