How often do you find yourself raving about something?
I often go to the same shawarma place – Jerusalem here in Calgary. Every time I go everyone seems to genuinely friendly and happy to welcome you there. On top of that each visit brings a new treat. Whether it's a free falafel on my chicken shawarma plate or baklava being delivered to our table, we always walk away delighted.
Their margins are likely low on single falafels and baklava and of course genuine human warmth and connection. They also trust that by giving you a little extra each time you'll continue to pay your delight forward to them in being a loyal (and raving) customer.
This is a great masterclass in a culture that enables employees to delight. How could you make someone's day? It's often a lot simpler than you think.
p.s. credit to one of my friends, Sanya, who challenged me to write a blog that was about tahini :)
