My Grandfather spent a lot of time laughing and making others laugh. He had a great sense of humour and was always able to use silliness to bring the energy up in a crowd.
I can be far too serious. He poked at me because of this, I think trying to help be realize that being so serious doesn't really get you too far and you're not so happy along the journey either.
I am really trying to be a lot sillier. I made a commitment on my Poppy's birthday last August to try to make this happen. It's probably the hardest and somehow the most fun intention I've set. I have little reminders for myself, like a Spoonful of Sugar link on my desktop, to get me into that mindset. I'm also lucky to have a lot of people who are already able to live the quote below like he did. They pull me out of my serious tendencies and into a lighter and more joyful world.
Never underestimate the power of fun in anything you do. I heard a great quote recently "why bother having a meeting, when you could have a party?" That check and balance can be inserted pretty much anywhere in your life. There's almost always a more fun way to do anything and the world can always use a little more laughter.
