I'm onto my second book by author Lisa Moore in the last 12 months. She is taking up the torch of amazing Newfoundland storytellers.
They say when great art feels alive. It's hard to even describe what makes it feel alive or to teach someone this skill. I'm floored each time I read a novel of hers at how alive it seems.
I love this because her stories are based in Newfoundland. They make me feel so much closer to home, especially when I'm feeling a little homesick.
I stumbled across this quote from Lisa below. The idea that all of these stories must come together to form the narrative of our rock makes perfect sense, but was not obvious to me. I always think about the narrative of this place as those who have remained. That those of us who have chosen to leave have given up our piece of the narrative in some way.
Thinking about what this more complete narrative would mean, in which all of these stories hold a place, is a comforting and exciting thought for me. When I read this, I know that I've felt it in Lisa's books. The many perspectives that are greater than the sum of their parts.
