We are in a bit of an age of politeness. We watch our statements for fear that they be labeled as negative. We wonder if what we say or type next will be taken with offense by someone. To be direct can be seen as inappropriate or not nice despite where the motivation for a comment or question may come from.
Sometimes to be kind you must also be honest. Creating tension can be a generous thing. To not be candid can be cruel.
Surrounding ourselves with individuals who have the strength of character and wisdom to accept our directness and to give theirs in return.
