Medium is famous for "insert number here list of how to be better" articles. I came across this one on how to be a successful millennial. It definitely flags a few of the negative stereotypes for individuals born in my generation; however, I feel like it actually gets at some key traits for anyone who wants to succeed with integrity.
A few of my favourite.
Compassion without seeing it as a weakness – advocating for our generation of leaders to put compassion, empathy and care at the heart of how we lead which will make us more successful in the long run. Shaking off the stigma that to put heart into the business world is a negative thing.
Business-minded and creatively expressed – the idea that the future of leadership is in balancing both of these traits, which you're unlikely to learn in a traditional academic route. I'm always grateful for both my music and business degree and the opportunity to grow the parts of my brain and soul that each of these fed.
Highly tactical, mindfully strategic – staying on the upside of success in the long-term is often all about the balance and connection between tactics and strategy. In addition to pointing this out, I appreciate the reminder of exactly what each of these words mean as I find people throw them around a lot in place of each other. Being tactical is understanding what you need to do today, in order to get to where you want to be tomorrow. Being strategic is understanding where you want to be a year, three years, five years from now, and being able to reverse engineer how to get there.
