Continuing my efforts to shift my time from consuming entertainment to enrichment. Here’s what I’ve learned or been inspired by today!
1. Find your best reflected self – Ask 15 people to write a short story that captures a time they saw you at your best. Read them through and aggregate what others perceive as your strengths – there could be things you’re missing. Be conscious that a strength should be something we are good at and gives us energy. Find ways in your work and personal life to spend time amplifying those strengths. Thanks again to Adam Grant’s WorkLife podcast episode When Strengths Become Weakness.
2. Beware the passion tax – A recent study by Aaron Kay shared that we’re more likely to ask passionate people to work harder, longer and take care of demeaning tasks. We have a responsibility as leaders to ensure we are not going to that well too often with our team members and to be conscious that we aren’t paying too much in passion tax ourselves.
3. Reaffirmed that it’s ok I’ve already introduced peanuts to my daughter. There’s still some old info in circulation and it freaks me out when I come across it. Today was the third time I’ve read in a reliable source to introduce right away. Third time is the charm for me!
