All three of my learnings came from listening to Ursula Burns, former CEO of Xerox, on The Economist Asks podcast Who will run tomorrow’s top companies?

1. “History as your biggest success and biggest enemy for change.” When Xerox had to pivot, it took as much effort to shift people internally to do new things as it was to get outsiders to think of them in a new way.

2. “That’s all I am is partial. That’s me.” My goal is to be as confidently myself as her. We need more people to stand for themselves and their ideas rather than retreating to apathy and tearing down someone else’s ideas.

3. “Start before you’re ready.” Women have a habit of wanting to be very well prepared for a task. In order to get ahead, we need to start jumping in a little earlier.
