Telling Your Heart

Brené Brown is someone I've been hearing about for awhile. It was only today I finally sat down to read more about her. She is part researcher, part storyteller. How cool and also relevant. Stories help us connect and in the connection economy they are the currency you need to make things happen.

The below captured me right away.

I've written many times about how my edge is honestly ending "I feel…" with others. I hold things in sometimes even with those I'm closest to. You can see how courage being tied up with speaking what's on your heart resonated with me.

I grew up with lots of examples in my own world and society at large that taught me other meanings of courage. Having a stiff upper lip. Not being emotional. Strong and silent. Strength was associated with holding emotion in.

I've spent the last decade trying to work my way back to this heart meaning of the word. I'm getting closer and keeping things like the below close will only help to keep me on the vulnerable, heart-first path.
