Entropy

Entropy – Second law of thermodynamics. That a closed system will gradually move towards a state of maximum disorder.

As many things in the natural world this law has learnings for how humans operate as well. If we close ourselves off as individuals, groups and organizations, eventually entropy will set in. The same thing only works for a certain period of time before it slowly begins to decay.

The more open we are to external sources of energy and knowledge the less likely it is that entropy will take over. There is always going to be some form of waxing and waning, but ensuring there is sufficient external input prevents all of the energy being from consumed and destroying the system.

That's why it's important to add new people into our lives and organizations and why the old saying that sometimes a change is as a good as a rest rings true.
