Throughout this year, I've been tuning into Denise Restauri's podcast – Mentoring Moments. In each episode, she asks a woman to share their triumphs and their troughs and what they've learned through all of that. November marked the final of these podcasts and Denise flipped the format to have someone interview her.
She kept coming back to that her next goal is growing an artichoke. Though she does literally want to grow an artichoke, it also highlights her intention to not really have a specific goal right now. To just show up and see what the universe has in store for her. It reminded me of Elizabeth Gilbert's assertion to just find something that makes you feel sparkly and go with it.
I'm in awe of the confidence and assurance to have such a simple goal. Denise is clearing away the noise and just following that sparkly compass.
It also turns out if you rush the growing of an artichoke it will rot. You have to let it grow at its own pace and nurture it accordingly. A great reminder that as much as we wish for something different, change and growth happen at its own pace rather than the one we try to dictate.
