No Boundaries Re-visited

As part of my reflection time to clue-up the year, I've been revisiting some of my past blog posts, including this one about a Thomas Friedman quote.

After your basic needs are met*, our ability to thrive depends much on our own mindset. Do we believe that we control the world or that it controls us? Are we owners of our own life's journey or spectators? Are we prepared to stand up and stand out or contented to blend into the crowd?

The answers to these questions determine if you see the evolution of our society and how it functions as a burden or a gift. The safety net of showing up and following instructions and in return receiving significant monetary benefits is nearly gone. Moving forward these rewards will be given to individuals and organizations who dare to care.

That caring looks like showing up for every interaction as you would your "most important" customer. An urgency to continually make what you're doing better. A hungry curiosity for what you do and who you serve. Lastly, giving away credit for those specific contributions, knowing that it's through this generosity you can bring others on the journey.

*As an aside,  I also do believe that there are systemic traps in our society that disadvantage some individuals from attaining these basic needs. That's a whole other issue.
