I was just catching up on Seth Godin's blog, which included his April Fool's post. I giggled out loud a lot and then I felt really happy. It wasn't that I was sad before, but the energy after my little giggle was lighter.
How many times do you laugh in a day? I feel like some days I make a lot of space for this and others I'm far too caught up in the 'serious/important work' that I need to get done.
On my Grandfather's birthday last year I set the intention of trying to be a lot sillier this year. He spent so much time laughing and played around with us so much as kids. He was an amazing leader and I have a feeling his ability to get people laughing in pretty much any situation was a part of his success. He knew there was always room for more laughter and it truly is the best medicine. I see the same traits in my husband and I know it's of the reasons I chose him as a partner – to pull me out of my often too serious self.
So the same way that many people count steps now, I'm going to try to start counting laughs and smiles in my day and continually push that number higher. I can't imagine any space where this can't help me produce better work or be a better friend or family member.
